Attend VALSE 2018 to Explore the Future of Computational Vision

VALSE(Vision And Learning SEminar) was initiated in 2011 to take the meaning of “Waltz Dance” and aims to provide Chinese young scholars in the field of computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition and machine learning research with a free, equal and low-cost deep academic exchange stage. Previously, VALSE had successfully held 7 sessions (Hangzhou, Xi'an, Nanjing, Qingdao, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Xiamen). This year was the 8th session and was held in Dalian from April 20th to 22nd. The number of participants from the initial dozens of people, to 3,000 this year, VALSE has grown rapidly and has become one of the most important conferences in the Chinese visual computing field. As the platinum sponsor of the conference, Huawei's Noah's Ark Lab and the Media Technology Lab were invited to attend the conference and made presentations. During the conference, we participated extensively in academic exchanges and conducted in-depth discussions with the majority of participating scholars on the latest achievements and future development of computational vision.

At the Huawei booth, the two participating laboratories provided a large number of research results in the field of computational vision and attracted the attention of many participants. Noah's Ark Lab focuses on the research of AI algorithms and computational vision is one of the main research directions. At this conference, we brought some research results of its computational vision team in urban security, terminal vision, and communication network O&M. And provided a vivid display at the booth, attracted a large number of participants to watch and discuss.

In the field of urban security, focus on building a safe city, Noah's Ark Lab conducted in-depth research on human identification, tracking, and detection of abnormal events, etc. This time, we demonstrated face recognition, human attribute recognition, multi-target tracking, estimation of the crowd density, dangerous goods detection, abnormal behavior detection, video Information abstract extraction, etc.

In the field of terminal vision, Noah's Ark Lab focused on building a brand new Huawei terminal visual experience based on AI algorithms. This time, we demonstrated image equalization, portrait semantic segmentation, text hyper-fractionation, human face hyper-fractionation, video hyper-division, and image semantics summary, automatic focus tracking, etc.

In the field of communication network O&M, Noah's Ark Lab focuses on AI technology to improve the efficiency of network O&M and help users reduce the cost of O&M. The research progress in the field of computational vision in the survey and acceptance process was demonstrated, including the installation specification compliance check, 3D reconstruction, switch capacity and device type identification, etc.

At this conference, Noah's Ark Lab made full use of presentations, demonstrations, and exchanges to fully share the research progress and achievements in the field of computational vision. We also listened to expert's presentations, visited corporate's demonstrations, and exchanged with scholars, and widely absorbed the wisdom of the industry and benefited a lot. As stated in the presentation materials, in the future, we will continue to cooperate extensively with the industry, focus on AI fundamental technology research, and promote the continuous development of computational vision technology, to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.
